Rep. Chu, Sen. Murphy Reintroduce Bicameral Bill to Block Muslim Ban Implementation

Washington, DC —Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) and Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) have each introduced companion bills in the House and Senate to block the implementation of President Trump’s executive order blocking travel from majority Muslim countries. The bills, H.R. 810 and S. 246, would prohibit the use of any funds or fees to implement Executive Order 13780, signed on March 6, 2017. Rep. Chu and Sen. Resources for Workers During Government Shutdown

The government shutdown has forced 800,000 federal workers and millions of contractors to go without pay since December 22nd 2018. I have voted repeatedly to open the government immediately and voted to pass a bill to provide back pay for workers. But that does not help with the bills and expenses that need to be paid today. IRS Responds to Pressure From Rep. Chu, Waives Tax Fees for Individuals

Washington, DC — Following pressure from Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27), including introduced legislation and a July 2018 letter to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the IRS today announced that it would waive the penalty for under-withholding on taxes for certain individuals. House Passes Rep. Chu Bill To Promote Small Business Startup Growth

Washington, DC — Today, the House voted to pass H.R. 116, the Investing in Main Street Act, introduced by Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27). This bill would amend the Small Businesses Investment Act of 1958 to increase the percentage of capital and surplus that a bank or federal savings association may invest in Small Business Investment Companies (SBICs) to match current banking regulations.

Rep. Chu Votes to Reopen Federal Agencies and End Suffering from Trump Shutdown

Washington, DC — This week, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) and House Democrats voted to pass stand-alone funding bills that would reopen the Departments of Interior, Agriculture, Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and the Environmental Protection Agency and end the suffering of federal employees who today did not receive paychecks. These federal agencies have been shutdown since December 22nd, 2018 because of President Trump’s unrelated demand to build a border wall, forcing 800,000 workers to go without pay, even though about half of them are still required to work.
