Congresswoman Judy Chu’s Congressional Youth Advisory Council

Congresswoman Judy Chu’s Congressional Youth Advisory Council (CYAC) is an opportunity for high school students residing in California’s 28th Congressional District to highlight and discuss important issues that face our youth.  Students will work directly with staff and a diverse group of leaders from our community to collaborate and identify how the federal government can help the community. 

Student Eligibility:

  • Students must reside in the 28th Congressional District.
  • Students must be entering 9th through 12th grade when the program begins. 


Application Materials:

  • Online Application Form, where you’ll also be uploading:
    • Signed Authorization and Release Form
    • 250-word essay explaining why you wish to be a member of CYAC
    • One-page resume
    • Official or unofficial high school transcript (or middle school transcript for incoming first years)
    • Two letters of recommendation from non-family members (you may upload them on the application or it may be emailed directly to the office with the provided email)


Deadline:

  • For the 2026-2027 CYAC, the deadline to submit your completed application is September 15, 2026.
     

FAQs

  • Decisions will be emailed around October 15, 2026. 
  • There will be 8 scheduled meetings that will run from 4:00pm to 5:00pm PST with one exception below.  Most meetings will be on Zoom. 
  • Meeting dates are:
    • Wednesday, November 4, 2026 (Required Attendance) 
    • Wednesday, November 18, 2026
    • Wednesday, December 2, 2026
    • Wednesday, January 13, 2027
    • Wednesday, January 27, 2027
    • Wednesday, February 10, 2027
    • Wednesday, February 24, 2027 (Required Attendance)
    • Saturday, February 27, 2027 (Required In-Person Morning Attendance) 
  • All council members are required to attend the first and last two meetings of the program.  Please note the last required meeting is in-person. 
  • Please note that if you cannot attend one of the required meetings, you will not qualify for completion of the program.
  • Students will be allowed 2 excused absences, not including the required meetings, to remain in good standing. 
  • Students are limited to a one-year term.
