Congresswoman Judy Chu’s Congressional Youth Advisory Council

Congresswoman Judy Chu’s Congressional Youth Advisory Council (CYAC) is an opportunity for high school students residing in California’s 28^th Congressional District to highlight and discuss important issues that face our youth.  Students will work directly with staff and a diverse group of leaders from our community to collaborate and identify how the federal government can help the community. 

Student Eligibility:

• Students must reside in the 28^th Congressional District.
• Students must be entering 9^th through 12^th grade when the program begins. 

Application Materials:

• Online Application Form, where you’ll also be uploading:
  • Signed Authorization and Release Form
  • 250-word essay explaining why you wish to be a member of CYAC
  • One-page resume
  • Official or unofficial high school transcript (or middle school transcript for incoming first years)
  • Two letters of recommendation from non-family members (you may upload them on the application or it may be emailed directly to the office with the provided email)

Deadline:

• For the 2026-2027 CYAC, the deadline to submit your completed application is September 15, 2026.
   

FAQs

• Decisions will be emailed around October 15, 2026. 
• There will be 8 scheduled meetings that will run from 4:00pm to 5:00pm PST with one exception below.  Most meetings will be on Zoom. 
• Meeting dates are:
  • Wednesday, November 4, 2026 (Required Attendance) 
  • Wednesday, November 18, 2026
  • Wednesday, December 2, 2026
  • Wednesday, January 13, 2027
  • Wednesday, January 27, 2027
  • Wednesday, February 10, 2027
  • Wednesday, February 24, 2027 (Required Attendance)
  • Saturday, February 27, 2027 (Required In-Person Morning Attendance) 
• All council members are required to attend the first and last two meetings of the program.  Please note the last required meeting is in-person. 
• Please note that if you cannot attend one of the required meetings, you will not qualify for completion of the program.
• Students will be allowed 2 excused absences, not including the required meetings, to remain in good standing. 
• Students are limited to a one-year term.
