Calls on leadership to bring up immigration measure during lame-duck session

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) participated in a Judiciary Subcommittee hearing on the Ethical Imperative for Reform of our Immigration System. The two-hour hearing featured testimony from four faith leaders of large, traditionally conservative denominations. Each spoke supportively of current congressional efforts toward comprehensive immigration reform and the urgent need for such legislation.

Rep. Judy Chu spoke during Special Orders on the House Floor on Thursday, April 29, 2010 in favor of comprehensive immigration reform. She also strongly criticized the harsh new Arizona law that targets undocumented immigrants by requiring law enforcement to request identification documents from individuals they suspect to be in the country illegally, a law which many scholars consider unconstitutional and which would essentially institutionalize racial profiling.
