Washington, DC — Today, marks the 150th Anniversary of the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad, which linked the continental United States from coast to coast and ushered in a new era of American prosperity. The completion of the railroad would not have been possible without the labor of over 12,000 Chinese railroad workers who helped to build this engineering marvel even in the face of great adversity and racial discrimination.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, which commemorates the history, contributions, and achievements of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community began on Wednesday and will continue throughout the month of May. May is officially designated as "Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month" by section 102 of title 36, United States Code. The observance originally began as "Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week," which was established through a joint Congressional resolution in 1978.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The 116th Congress will bring tremendous milestones for the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community, including a record 20 AAPI Members of Congress and the inclusion of an Asian American Member in House Leadership. On Thursday, Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) Member Ted Lieu (CA-44) was elected to House Leadership as a Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) Co-Chair.
Washington, D.C. – Today, the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on Border Security and Immigration held a hearing on "Student Visa Integrity: Protecting Educational Opportunity and National Security." When first announced, the hearing was originally called "A Thousand Talents: China's Campaign to Infiltrate and Exploit U.S. Academia," which revealed the hearing's attempt to paint all Chinese students, scholars, and employees en masse as potential spies for China.

Washington, DC — Yesterday, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) introduced H.Res. 869 to recognize the history and contributions of American Muslims to our country. The resolution, introduced days before the start of the holy month of Ramadan, recounts the history of American Muslims from the earliest arrivals brought here as slaves through their contributions in the military, architecture, sciences, sports, civil rights, and more. Washington, DC — In a campaign ad released by Don Blankenship, a Republican candidate for Senate in West Virginia, the candidate used racial slurs against Chinese and Chinese Americans. This is the latest in a series of racial statements aimed at Chinese and Chinese Americans from Mr. Blankenship, who has referred to them as "Chinapeople," and used Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's Chinese American wife and her family to question his loyalty. Washington, DC — Today, the House voted to pass H.R. 5447, the Music Modernization Act, a bill which reforms and updates the way songwriters and artists are compensated. The Music Modernization Act reforms section 115 of the Copyright Act and creates a blanket license for mechanical reproduction royalties. A collective will streamline licensing, create an ownership database, and search for owners who should receive royalties.
