I am committed to taking aggressive action to halt and reverse the effects of climate change. That is why I am working to end our reliance on fossil fuels, keep our air and water clean, and invest in clean energy. We can confront the climate crisis while building a stronger, more resilient economy, creating good-paying clean energy jobs, and protecting more of our natural lands and waters.

Rep. Chu with kids
Education is a proven pathway for success. As a former community college professor and school board member in our community, I’ve fought to provide schools with the support they need my entire career. We need to fully fund education programs, give our teachers and students the resources they need, ensure our schools are environments for learning, while guaranteeing equal opportunity for all students—from pre-K through college and beyond.

Immigration2

Immigration is core to America’s strength and has been since our founding. Immigrants invigorate our communities, contribute to our culture, and grow our economy by starting businesses in greater numbers than native-born Americans. But, our immigration system is broken, outdated, and in dire need of reform. There are more than 12 million immigrants currently living in the United States without a pathway to residency or citizenship, and more than 4.4 million close family members waiting abroad to join their loved ones through the family-based immigration system.

Obama Monument for Homepage
Our highly urban communities look toward these mountains because they are in desperate need of outdoor opportunities. The Los Angeles area is one of the most park poor regions of the county. Too many of these communities lack the resources for residents to walk, jog, bike or picnic in their own neighborhoods.

Rep. Chu with seniors
Seniors are the bedrock of our communities. They have worked hard all their lives and built our communities. Now, like so many Americans, they are struggling and face particular challenges including high health care costs and income insecurity. America pioneered a social safety net to provide for people as they enter retirement – and they have earned it! We must never neglect that responsibility to our seniors.

SMALL BUSINESSES

Small businesses create 2 out of every 3 new jobs in our country, and it is my mission as a member of the Small Business Committee to help them do what they do best: create good-paying jobs, drive innovation, contribute to their community, and strengthen the middle class.

I am working to expand access to capital, create a competitive workforce through education and training, and make sure that underserved businesses and entrepreneurs are supported.

On the battlefield, our military pledges to leave no soldier behind. As a nation, we must make that same pledge for every Veteran.

Civil and Voting Rights

Congress must work to end all forms of government-sanctioned discrimination, so every American can be treated equally and has a meaningful opportunity to participate in our democracy. Unfortunately, the Trump administration is attempting to rollback civil rights across the board, and I will continue to fight to uphold and strengthen these protections.
