After President’s Briefing, Rep. Chu Highlights His Promise for Southern California to Obtain Needed Assistance from Federal Government
PASADENA, CA — Yesterday, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28) attended President Trump’s Fire Recovery Briefing in Pacific Palisades. Following the briefing, she released the following statement:
“In yesterday's presidential briefing, I focus on the positive: President Trump emphasized time and time again that he would support Californians ‘100 percent’ in our recovery efforts. He did not mention conditions he’d place on California or Los Angeles County for our residents and communities to receive federal natural disaster assistance and that we would receive ‘whatever we needed’ to heal, recover, and rebuild. That would maintain the close partnership our region has had with the federal government from the Biden-Harris Administration to the Trump-Vance Administration. I do thank him for answering the letter that I led asking him to come to this area to view the damage of the Los Angeles wildfires, and he did so within 3 days of his inauguration. But he only went to the Palisades, so in the briefing I urged him to not forget the people of Altadena and Pasadena, who have suffered massive devastation and lost everything. Wildfires have no political affiliation or political party. These survivors desperately need federal aid and assistance, and don’t deserve to have it delayed or denied because of conditions placed on that aid. As
Americans, we have each other’s backs during disasters, and as the president noted, no
golden age of the country can begin without a strong Golden State.”
