Rep. Chu Announces $250,000 in American Rescue Plan Grants for Local Businesses

January 28, 2022

PASADENA, CA - On Thursday January 27, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) announced that it was awarding over $57 million in grants to over 567 arts organizations, including two in Pasadena: $150,000 for A Noise Within and $100,000 for Fulcrum Arts. The grants, created as part of the American Rescue Plan, which Congress passed last year, are intended to help support jobs in the arts sector, keep the doors open to arts organizations nationwide, and assist the field in its response to and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) issued the following statement:

"The arts are a vital part of our community, especially here in Southern California. From educating children to community performances, the museums, playhouses, and other arts organizations in our district bring vitality to our area while supporting thousands of good jobs. That is why I was so proud to vote for the historic American Rescue Plan, which included millions of dollars to help these organizations keep their doors open, their staff paid, and our communities connected. I'm especially proud that A Noise Within, which is a nationally recognized classical repertory theatre company, and Fulcrum Arts, a non-profit supporting the arts in Pasadena since 1968, had their important work recognized with these NEA grant awards. This is in addition to the over $151 million in Restaurant Revitalization Funds provided to 421 local restaurants and the over $17 million in Shuttered Venue Operators Grants to local stadiums, theaters, and museums. And I am committed to continuing to fight for more resources to help us all get through this pandemic stronger than before."
