Rep. Chu Announces $25.2 million in Tax Cuts for 69,000 Low Income Children Thanks to Child Tax Credit

November 22, 2021
Press Release

Today, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) released new information from the Joint Economic Committee showing over $25 million in advanced Child Tax Credit payments went to families in the 27th Congressional District. The tax cuts, totaling $25.2 million helped cover 69,000 low income children in the district. Rep. Chu issued the following statement:

“Through no fault of their own, families are struggling. We have seen the way stimulus checks helped save so many families from losing their home or going without meals, but since the pandemic has not ended, neither can our support for families. This is especially important as we approach Thanksgiving and the holiday season. That is why I fought to expand the Child Tax Credit earlier this year in the American Rescue Plan, and why I am thrilled to see it helping so many families! Out of the 99,000 eligible in our district, almost 70,000 children have been covered by this tax credit, which provides up to $300 each month per child! That is an enormous help for parents worried about high gas prices or keeping food on the table this winter. And it is why we must fight to keep this tax credit available to families in advance of their annual tax returns in the Build Back Better Act.”
