Rep. Chu Helps Lead Introduction of Resolution Reaffirming House Support for Two State Solution
Resolution comes after President Biden reaffirmed support in his 2024 State of the Union Address
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28) joined Rep. Veronica Escobar (TX-16) to introduce a resolution reaffirming the House of Representatives support for a two state solution in Israel and Palestine.
Rep. Chu issued the following statement on the resolution:
“I’m co-leading this resolution reaffirming Congress’s support for a two-state solution because this is the only path forward for an enduring peace that recognizes the sovereignty, self-determination, and security of both Israelis and Palestinians. The ongoing war that began with Hamas terrorists’ attacks on Israel on October 7 has taken an unacceptable and heartbreaking toll, with nearly two million Palestinians displaced and tens of thousands of Palestinians wounded and killed. And as the violence continues, Israeli hostages remain in captivity and the humanitarian devastation in Gaza worsens every day. That is why I have been calling for months for an immediate, negotiated ceasefire to end fighting, secure every hostage's release, and surge humanitarian aid to Gaza. This must be the first step toward permanent peace, with a two-state solution to follow that provides sovereignty and security for the Palestinian people to safely live side-by-side with Israel.”
