PASADENA, CA – Today, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) visited Alhambra High School to honor local students at C-SPAN’s StudentCam Competition Awards Ceremony. This year’s winners were selected from among over 6,000 participants nationwide. Participants were asked to make a 5-7 minute video on the topic, "Road to the White House: What's the issue YOU most want candidates to discuss during the 2016 presidential campaign?” Alhambra students Andy Chan, Aaqil Khan, and Shannon Kha, won second place for their film, “A Sense of Security,” a documentary on the importance of Social Security. The students interviewed retirees who depend on Social Security, staff from the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), and graduate students concerned about the future of Social Security. Rep. Chu released the following statement:

“I am so proud of these incredibly talented students. Not only did they produce an informative and serious work of journalism on a major topic of concern, but they competed against over 6,000 others nationwide to win second place! Creating this documentary took hard work, research, and real dedication. I know Andy, Aaqil, and Shannon have bright futures ahead of them. They should feel accomplished and know how proud of them we all are. Likewise, the faculty of Alhambra High School and the students’ families deserve credit for encouraging such talent and ambition. I’d also like to express my appreciation to C-SPAN for providing this opportunity for students to showcase their talents. Opportunities like this create new avenues of learning and build civic engagement necessary for our future. It was a joy to take part and see just some of the amazing talent in our area’s youth.”
