Rep. Chu Reacts to Supreme Court Mifepristone Decision
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Supreme Court unanimously ruled in Food and Drug Administration v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine that the plaintiffs lacked standing to challenge the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA’s) regulations regarding mifepristone, a drug used in the majority of abortions.
Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28), author of the Women’s Health Protection Act, released the following statement:
“Today’s unanimous decision is a surprising relief for Americans everywhere who desire reproductive freedom. While continued access to the safe, effective drug, mifepristone, and other FDA-approved drugs, is guaranteed for now, attacks on this drug and other abortions will not cease. With 147 Congressional Republicans requesting the Court rule differently today, with additional challenges to come in the federal courts, and with national abortion bans on the agenda in 2025 and beyond, we cannot rest. I will always fight for reproductive freedom and will continue to advance at every possible moment the Women’s Health Protection Act to restore the protections of Roe and make access to abortion care legal in every zip code.”
