Rep. Chu Remarks at Event with President Tsai of Taiwan

LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28) made the following remarks at a banquet for President Tsai Ing-wen hosted by Taiwanese and Taiwanese American communities in the Southern California region:

"I am Congressmember Judy Chu, representing the San Gabriel Valley here in Los Angeles with its large, vibrant immigrant community from Taiwan. As a longtime member of the Congressional Taiwan Caucus, I welcome President Tsai to our Los Angeles area.

"President Tsai is such a distinguished leader of the leading democracy in Asia. Her visit is an opportunity to celebrate the enduring friendship between the United States and Taiwan and build an even stronger bond between our democracies. Economically, Taiwan is the United States' ninth largest trading partner, and this relationship directly supports 188,000 American jobs. And because Taiwan is a longstanding member of the World Trade Organization, I am working through my position on the Ways and Means Committee to make our partnership even deeper through a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement.

"So President Tsai, welcome back to Los Angeles and to the United States. I look forward to continuing our work together to promote our mutual prosperity and security. Thank you."
