Rep. Chu Statement on DHS Funding Bill
Washington, D.C. – Friday night, just hours before short-term funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) expired, a move that would have left thousands furloughed or forced to work without pay, the House of Representatives passed a seven-day patch to keep the agency open. Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27), who voted for the extension, released the following statement:
“While it is incredibly disappointing that we were once again brought to the brink of a shutdown, I am glad a solution could be found. Any shutdown for our top national security agency could have been disastrous, a risk that far exceeded the worth of the doomed-to-fail anti-immigrant strategy of the Republican leadership. I am confident that in the coming days we will pass a bill to fund DHS through the rest of the year, providing the certainty our federal, state, and local agencies deserve and require.”
