Rep. Chu Statement on Start of the UN Climate Summit
Washington, DC – On Tuesday, heads of state, business leaders, environmental advocates, and civil society will join in New York City for the United Nations (UN) Climate Summit. The summit, organized by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, is intended to spur global action to stem climate change. Rep. Judy Chu released the following statement:
“Climate change is a real and serious threat. Thanks to our nation’s innovators, the U.S. is a leader in promoting clean energy and combating rising temperatures. But without a concerted change in global behavior, we will all be subject to the drastic impacts of climate change. The Climate Summit is not only an opportunity to showcase American advances – like Caltech, which is in my district, that is working on making liquid fuels from solar energy - but to coordinate with others around the world. I applaud the organizers and participants for encouraging us all to act. From policymakers to individual consumers, we must all be a part of the effort to avert the global threat of climate change,” said Rep. Chu.
Rep. Chu is a member of the House Safe Climate Caucus, as well as Environment Task Force Chair of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC). She has consistently supported environmental conservation, clean energy development, and has been a strong champion of compliance with the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts.
