Rep. Chu Votes Against Illegitimate Impeachment Inquiry

December 13, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the House of Representatives passed H.Res. 918 on a vote of 221-212 to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28), a member of the Committee on Ways and Means, voted in opposition and issued the following statement:

“After investigating President Biden and his family all year, Republicans have turned up zero evidence. Their hearings, their witnesses, the documents they requested, the depositions they’ve taken, even their Republican colleagues in the Senate—all find no evidence of wrongdoing by the President while in office or as a private citizen.

“But to do the former president’s bidding and distract from their manufactured crises and do-nothing record with no modern equivalent, extreme MAGA Republicans are forcing a formal impeachment inquiry. Congress could be working on a bipartisan basis to lower costs for consumers, grow the middle class, and protect America’s national security. My Democratic colleagues and I are enthusiastically ready to solve America’s problems, but MAGA extremists force us—and the rest of the country—to waste time and taxpayer dollars on this charade.

“This impeachment exercise is a disgrace to the American people and the House. I therefore voted to oppose.”
