Rep. Chu Votes to End Government Shutdown and Prevent Default Crisis
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27) voted for compromise legislation to fund the federal government through January 15th and avert a default until February 7th. The Senate-brokered deal ends the 16-day federal government shutdown and allows the Treasury Department to continue paying the country’s bills. Rep. Chu released the following statement:
“Tonight, Congress voted to end the government shutdown, avert the looming debt crisis, and bring 16 days of national disgrace to a close. But this fix is temporary, and we cannot afford to be dragged through the same process again in a few short months. Governing by hostage taking is a strategy doomed to fail, and we can only hope the people who pursued it have learned that lesson. The American people deserve better leadership for their tax dollars.”
