“We Know How to Count to 90” - Rep. Chu Statement on Implementation of Trump’s Muslim Ban
WASHINGTON, D.C. – At 8:00 pm tonight, a truncated version of Trump's 90-day Muslim Ban will go into effect. Travelers from six Muslim-majority countries without "bona fide" relationships in the U.S. will be denied visas. In preparation, the State Department issued guidelines for who counts as a "bona fide" relationship, drawing the line at immediate family and excluding relations like grandparents and fiancées. Rep. Chu issued the following statement:
"Mr. Trump, at 8:00 tonight, you will begin your policy of separating families and discriminating against travelers based solely on their religion. This is a shameful and likely unconstitutional policy, but one that you promised would last just 90 days while your administration looked at stricter vetting procedures. Well the clock has started and we know how to count to 90. By the end of September, we will know if you are staying true to your word, or if this was just another lie you told the American people as you moved to implement extreme policies."
