WASHINGTON, DC – In an immediate response to the Supreme Court's decision to uphold the Trump administration's controversial rule that allows employers to refuse to cover their employees' birth control under their company health insurance plan, a group of federal lawmakers announced today they will be filing new legislation tomorrow to repeal the rules before they can take effect.

WASHINGTON, DC — According to new data released by the US Treasury Department, over 22,400 businesses in California's 27^th Congressional District received loans through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). These federally backed loans worth up to $10 million were created by Congress to help businesses continue paying employees and cover other operating expenses during the COVID-19 pandemic and mandatory shutdown and social distancing orders. WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 2, the Moving Forward Act, a $1.5 trillion infrastructure bill that invests in roads, bridges, schools, housing, broadband, and more. The Moving Forward Act will improve traffic safety with a $300 billion investment in roads and bridges while also investing over $100 billion in zero-emissions buses and alternative fuel charging infrastructure. And it further helps the environment and Americans' health with $25 billion for safe drinking water and over $70 billion to use more renewable and clean fuels for our electric grid.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1425, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Enhancement Act. This bill makes healthcare more accessible by expanding tax credits to help more middle-class individuals and families to qualify for subsidies in the Marketplace, ensuring that no person will pay more than 8.5 percent of their income on a silver plan in the Marketplace. This bill also includes an amendment that would make DACA recipients eligible for tax credits, so they can access affordable coverage.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House of Representatives voted to pass H.R. 7120, the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2020. The bill would make a number of reforms to policing to increase accountability and decrease violence, including banning chokeholds, ending the use of no-knock warrants for drug crimes, limiting the transfer of military equipment to state and local law enforcement, and mandating that body cameras be worn at all times by federal officers.

Pasadena, CA – Today, the Supreme Court ruled that President Trump's order to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals was arbitrary and capricious and violated the law. The decision means that almost 700,000 DACA recipients will continue to have the ability to apply for work authorizations and live without fear of deportation. Judy Chu (CA-27) stands with House Democrats, who, led by Congressional Black Caucus Chair Karen Bass and House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler, introduced the Justice in Policing Act of 2020. This bill combats police brutality by banning chokeholds and requiring body and dashboard cameras. It removes the barriers to prosecuting police misconduct from officers who have violated civilians' rights and ends qualified immunity by law enforcement. It de-militarizes the police by limiting the transfer of military weaponry to state and local police departments.
