WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the five women who sit on the House Judiciary Committee, Representatives Judy Chu (D-CA), Suzan DelBene (D-WA), Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) and Karen Bass (D-CA) sent a letter to Judiciary Committee Chair Bob Goodlatte denouncing his decision to hold the first mark-up of 2014 on a divisive bill to restrict women’s access to reproductive health care. The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act (H.R. 7) would impose sweeping changes to current law to impede women’s access to abortion coverage nationwide.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27) voted against H.J. Res. 59, the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2013, for failing to extend unemployment insurance for long-term unemployed Americans. Earlier this week, Rep. WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today on the House floor, Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27) voted to pass H.R. 3309, the Innovation Act of 2013. This legislation helps curb abusive litigation by patent assertion entities, more commonly referred to as “patent trolls.” These actors abuse the patent system by purchasing the rights to overly broad patents in order to threaten legitimate businesses and consumers with costly litigation. According to a Boston University study, lawsuits brought on by patent trolls cost the U.S. economy more than $29 billion annually.
