Rep. Chu encourages constituents to apply for passports before increase
Washington, D.C. - The U.S. Department of State has announced that it is increasing passport fees beginning July 13, 2010. The new fee scale is designed to cover actual operating expenses of the Bureau of Consular Affairs, which provides services at 301 overseas consular posts, 23 domestic passport agencies and other centers.
On Thursday, July 1st, Congresswoman Judy Chu spoke in favor of the The Securing Protections for the Injured from Limitations on Liability Act (SPILL Act) during the bills debate on the House floor. In encouraging her colleagues to vote for the bill, Chu noted the bill fixes discrepancies between compensation for maritime deaths and land-based ones, allows for families to seek damages for pain and suffering, and removes caps on the liability owed by Transocean, the owner of the Deep Horizon rig.
