Emergency Education Jobs and Medicaid Assistance Act Also Cuts Deficit by $1.4 Billion
Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) issued the following statement regarding today's federal court decision overturning Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage in California:
On Thursday, July 29, Rep. Chu spoke on the House floor in support of the Investing In American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act of 2010. She hailed the bill's extension of the Emergency Fund for Job Creation and Assistance, which has created over 11,000 jobs in LA County and almost 250,000 across the since the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 created the program.
WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-Calif.) made the following statement on this Friday’s deadline to be counted in the 2010 Census:
“Since the Census count only takes place every ten years, it is critical that people take this last opportunity to respond to the Census questions by phone by this Friday,” said Chu. “Being counted in the Census means better schools for our children, more firefighters and police officers to protect our community, and increased funding to repair our roads.”

Judy Chu today issued the following statement in response to today's 308 – 114 vote in the House of Representatives to pass the Senate’s Amendment to H.R. 4899 – The 2010 Supplemental Appropriations Act 2010. Today's legislation cut $10 billion in funding to prevent teacher layoffs, $1 billion for summer youth employment, $5 billion for Pell grants and $701 million for border security, all of which were offset and budget-neutral, from the previous version of the appropriation bill.
