Washington, DC – On Thursday, House Republicans ended the Congressional work period early, starting a seven week summer recess without passing legislation to address gun violence, the Zika virus, or the Flint water crisis. Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) released the following statement:
Washington, DC - Yesterday, Reps. Judy Chu (CA-27), Bill Pascrell, Jr. (NJ-09), Andre Carson (IN-07), and Keith Ellison (MN-05) hosted the second briefing in a series of discussions on Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) programs entitled “Countering Violent Extremism: Threats, Challenges, and Solutions”. Since the attacks in Orlando and San Bernardino and the Oregon militia standoff, there has been increased emphasis on CVE initiatives at home and abroad.
Washington, DC – Today, the House of Representatives passed the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act of 2016. The final bill reflects report language from the Conference Committee consisting of Democratic and Republican members of the House and Senate which met earlier this week to finalize legislation addressing the opioid epidemic. The Conference Committee was selected to reconcile the 18 opioid bills passed by the House of Representatives in May with the single opioid measure passed by the Senate in March. Rep.
Washington, DC – On Thursday night, a peaceful protest in response to the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philandro Castile turned deadly as five Dallas, TX police officers were killed and seven others wounded by at least one sniper. Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) released the following statement:
WASHINGTON, DC – On Tuesday night, four-year-old Salvador Esparza was shot and killed outside of his home in Altadena, CA. Today, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27), who represents Altadena, spoke about Salvador on the House Floor and called for action on gun violence to prevent future deaths. Rep. Chu’s remarks are below:

PASADENA, CA – On Wednesday night, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27), hosted “SPEAK OUT: Enough is Enough”, a discussion on the need for Congressional action on gun violence prevention legislation. This event was a part of the National Day of Action on Gun Violence Prevention that was organized by House Democrats.
"It is very important that California apply for this historic grant from the U.S. Department of Education, given the large and diverse Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) population in our state," Rep. Judy Chu, chair of CAPAC, told NBC News. "Statistics show a stark difference in educational attainment among certain AAPI subgroups, especially students in the Southeast Asian and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities.
More than 200 people signed up to attend Monterey Park Rep. Judy Chu’s meeting at All Saints Episcopal Church on Wednesday evening to hear from people affected by gun violence, including Josh Stepakoff, who survived the 1999 shooting at the Los Angeles Jewish Community Center, and his mother, Lauren Leib.
"This includes complaints of polling locations failing to provide translated ballots that especially hurt those in the Asian American and Pacific Islander community — over a third of whom are limited English proficient," U.S. Rep.
