Pasadena, CA – Today, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) hosted a Job Hunters Boot Camp at Grapevine Arbor Park in San Gabriel, CA. The Boot Camp was attended by over 100 job seekers who received resources, advice, and employment opportunities from 50 employers and volunteer groups. Attendees were able to get resume help, speak with employers, apply for jobs, and attend workshops on branding, growing a business, and more. There was also a specialized workshop for veterans entering the workforce. Rep. Chu released the following statement:

Judy Chu (CA-27) hosted a press conference at the Pasadena Police Department to encourage residents to participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. Rep. Washington, DC – On Monday, Fox News’ ‘The O’Reilly Factor” aired a segment by Jesse Watters who visited New York City’s Chinatown neighborhood to interview Chinese American voters on the presidential election. The segment repeatedly made Asian Americans the butt of the joke and drew widespread criticism. Rep. Washington, DC – On Wednesday night, the House passed H.R. 5303, the Water Resources Development Act of 2016 (WRDA), a bill which authorizes and revises 27 water resources development projects for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The final version of WRDA passed by the House included $1.36 billion to help restoration and recreational projects on the Los Angeles River as well as $170 million to assist with the water crisis in Flint, MI. Washington, DC – Last night, the House of Representatives voted 342-85 to pass H.R. 5325, a short-term spending bill to keep the government funded through December 9, 2016. The funding bill maintains current spending levels and includes $1.1 billion to combat the spread of the Zika virus. Rep. Washington, DC – Today, FBI Director James Comey appeared before the House Judiciary Committee to answer oversight questions from Members of Congress. Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) questioned Director Comey on FBI efforts to counter violent extremism in accordance with civil rights, particularly the “Don’t Be a Puppet” website which lays out broad warning signs for those perceived to be prone to extremist violence. Washington, DC – Today, the House of Representatives voted to pass H.R. 5351, a bill to bar the transfer of detainees from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The bill would, for the first time, prevent all transfers of detainees out of Guantanamo Bay, even to stand trial in a Federal Court. Rep.
