At a Congressional briefing on Capitol Hill Thursday, The Sikh Coalition and Muslim Advocates brought attention to the rising cost of hate violence in America. Along with Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) and Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), families who have been impacted by hate violence spoke about how their families have been affected and the importance of prosecuting hate crimes.

Besides adding to the monument, Chu's bill would bring back the idea of a National Recreation Area originally proposed before Obama's declaration. A San Gabriel Mountains NRA of about 50,000 acres would include private and public lands along the foothills, on both sides of the San Gabriel River from Azusa to Santa Fe Springs and westerly along a portion of the Puente-Chino Hills

Today, Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27) spoke and participated in the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument One Year Anniversary Celebration. The event was organized by the National Forest Service, conservation groups, local stakeholders and partners. Attendees participated in tours that featured the history of the San Gabriel Mountains, and rehabilitation projects involving a sign unveiling, painting, planting, and cleanup.

Today, Reps. Judy Chu (CA-27) and Doug Collins (GA-9), co-chairs of the Creative Rights Caucus, collaborated with film and television stakeholders to bring to Capitol Hill the 2nd annual Beyond the Red Carpet – an interactive showcase of the women and men behind-the-scenes of the creative industries. The event featured representatives from popular movies and shows, including Star Wars, Gravity, Goosebumps, House of Cards, and others.
