FY 2025 Community Projects Submitted
The Fiscal Year 2025 appropriations and Community Project Funding application and submission process is complete. Unfortunately, House Republicans cut all CPFs from the final FY2025 continuing resolution.
Below are the 15 Community Project Funding requests that Congresswoman Chu accepted and submitted for consideration to the House Appropriations Committee.
Project Sponsor: City of Arcadia
Project Name: U.S. Forest Service Joint Fire Training Center
Project Sponsor Location: 240 W. Huntington Dr., Arcadia, CA 91006
Requested Amount: $2,000,000
Project Description: The funding would be used for a joint fire training center between the City of Arcadia and the U.S. Forest Service to facilitate Class-A live fire training. This training site will provide a platform to conduct realistic multi-agency training between police and fire personnel to improve response times and effectiveness in handling scenarios such as those involving active shooters, bomb explosions, and hazardous materials. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because targeted fire training contributes to faster and more effective response times for real incidents, potentially minimizing property damage and saving lives. This site will significantly improve the City of Arcadia’s ability to work cohesively with the U.S. Forest Service to protect the Wildland Urban Interface bordering the Angeles National Forest. This training center will also be available for use in educating residents about fire safety and fire prevention, and this proactive engagement will enhance overall community resilience and empower individuals to take preventative measures.

Project Sponsor: City of Monterey Park
Project Name: Fire Station 63 Reconstruction Project
Project Sponsor Location: 320 West Newmark Ave., Monterey Park, CA 91754
Requested Amount: $4,500,000
Project Description: The funding would be used for the reconstruction of an aging and unsafe facility, including the demolition and reconstruction of Fire Station 63 and the attached training tower that were previously damaged by an earthquake. This project would be an investment in public safety for the community and the health and wellness of first responders. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because fire stations, like any infrastructure, require maintenance and upgrades over time to ensure they meet safety standards and can effectively respond to emergencies. Fire Station 63 is outdated and had substantial damage from a recent earthquake, making it an unsafe and unsustainable facility in its current condition. Furthermore, the population of Monterey Park has grown since the fire station was originally built and it is no longer adequately sized or equipped to handle the increased demand for fire and emergency services.

Project Sponsor: U.S. Bureau of Reclamation
Project Name: San Gabriel Basin Restoration Fund
Project Sponsor Location: 27226 Via Industria, Suite A, Temecula, CA 92590
Requested Amount: $10,000,000
Project Description: The funding would be used for groundwater cleanup in the San Gabriel Basin and the Central Basin in Southern California. It will support activities at 33 active groundwater cleanup projects that use the latest technology to remove contaminants. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because the San Gabriel Basin Restoration Fund was established by Congress in 2001 to clean up the region’s groundwater, major portions of which are designated as Superfund sites, to prevent the contamination from spreading into the Central Basin. The Basin provides 90% of the drinking water supplies for over 1.84 million residents, of which more than 400,000 are in disadvantaged communities. Without the ability to remove contaminants, water rates are likely to increase substantially for residents and the San Gabriel Valley will have to increase its reliance on imported water from Northern California.
