WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 397-28 to pass H.R. 6938, the FY26 Commerce-Justice-Science, Energy and Water, and Interior-Environment appropriations minibus, a three-bill funding package that invests in science, public safety, energy and water infrastructure, and environmental protection for communities nationwide, including Southern California. WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep Judy Chu (CA-28) introduced the San Gabriel Mountains, Foothills, and Rivers Protection Act of 2025, which would designate 35,335 acres of protected wilderness and 20.2 miles of wild and scenic rivers. Alex Padilla (D-CA) introduced Protecting Unique and Beautiful Landscapes by Investing in California (PUBLIC) Lands Act, a package that includes identical companion legislation to Rep. Chu’s.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Reps. Judy Chu (CA-28) and Brad Sherman (CA-32) introduced H.R. 2928, the Mortgage Relief for Disaster Survivors Act, which would provide homeowners in presidentially declared disaster areas who have a federally backed mortgage with 180 days of mortgage forbearance, with the option of extending for an additional 180 days and without any penalties, fees, or additional interest accruing.

“I have asked the EPA and FEMA to do soil testing in Altadena and Pasadena, and I was disappointed when they flat-out said no. They said they haven’t paid for soil testing after debris removal since 2019, and they have concluded that whatever is found below the 6 inches is preexisting before the fires.
