WASHINGTON, DC – Today, members of the House passed H.R. 5297, the Small Business Lending Fund Act. H.R 5297 includes an amendment co-sponsored by Rep. Michael Honda, Rep. Judy Chu, Rep. Al Green, and Rep. André Carson which would require linguistically and culturally appropriate outreach for the Small Business Loan Fund, and to the extent possible, the disaggregation of data.

WASHINGTON, DC –Rep. Judy Chu, D-CA32, spoke on the House floor today in support of the Teen Parents Graduation and College Act. The bill, which the Congresswoman introduced last week, creates a new $150 million grant program aimed at preventing pregnant and parenting students from dropping out of school.

Annually, almost 750,000 American teenagers between the ages of 15 and 19 become pregnant, and studies have shown that 70 percent of these new teen mothers will drop out of high school.

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Judy Chu, D-CA32, played a major role in crafting legislation introduced today that will significantly improve the nutrition of millions of children across America. The Improving Nutrition for America’s Children Act of 2010 improves the access and quality of school meal programs for the more than 30 million students who receive assistance through the National School Lunch Program. It also establishes nutrition standards for all foods sold in schools and implements new guidelines for food safety.
