WASHINGTON – This week marks the Rep. Judy Chu's (D-Calif.) first anniversary serving the residents of California's 32nd Congressional District. Since being sworn in on July 16th, 2009, Chu has worked to create new jobs, reform our broken healthcare system, crack down on Wall Street abuses and make a college education more affordable. To mark the occasion, Chu released a detailed description of her work for constituents and the following statement:
Washington, D.C. – Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) played a major role in ensuring our country’s neediest students receive nutritional aid within a bill passed by the House Education and Labor Committee this morning. The Improving Nutrition for America's Children Act of 2010 includes amendments from Chu that prioritize the nation’s lowest performing schools to receive funding during the $10 billion expansion of the School Breakfast program and provide logistical support to needy districts to help implement nutrition programs.
Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) participated in a Judiciary Subcommittee hearing on the Ethical Imperative for Reform of our Immigration System. The two-hour hearing featured testimony from four faith leaders of large, traditionally conservative denominations. Each spoke supportively of current congressional efforts toward comprehensive immigration reform and the urgent need for such legislation.
WASHINGTON, DC - Recently, the House passed the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, including a provision that the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) and the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) worked on that pertains to minority and women-owned small business data collection.

Washington, D.C. - The U.S. Department of State has announced that it is increasing passport fees beginning July 13, 2010. The new fee scale is designed to cover actual operating expenses of the Bureau of Consular Affairs, which provides services at 301 overseas consular posts, 23 domestic passport agencies and other centers.
