WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Representative Judy Chu (D-CA) issued the following statement on California's disqualification from receiving Race to the Top education grants:

"I am disappointed that California wasn't one of the finalists for the first round of funding for the Race to the Top grants.

"There is $4 billion at stake and California jumped through a significant amount of federal hoops — including passing a law without charter school accountability and linking teacher performance to student achievement — just to be eligible.

Today, Representative Judy Chu (D- CA) attended the Committee on Government Oversight and Reform's subcommittee hearing on international drug cartels to strongly push for a boost in American efforts to stop money laundering and drug related violence in Mexico. The unprecedented violence there claimed nearly 7,000 lives in 2009 alone.

EL MONTE, CA – Rep. Judy Chu, D-CA32, hosted a press conference at her district office in El Monte on Monday in order to update the media on the investigation into the slaying of El Monte educator and school board member Agustin Roberto "Bobby" Salcedo. The press conference was attended by members of Bobby Salcedo's family, including Carlos Salcedo, his brother; Mr. Salcedo's mother, Graciela Salcedo; and his widow, Betzy Salcedo.

Washington, DC – Rep. Judy Chu (CA-32) voted to help restore common sense to Wall Street with the largest reform of our nation's financial regulations since the New Deal. The Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act will end taxpayer-funded bailouts and ‘too big to fail' financial institutions, protects consumers from predatory lending, safeguards our retirement and college savings from unnecessary risks, and injects transparency and new accountability into a financial system run amok.
