Washington, D.C. – Today, the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on Border Security and Immigration held a hearing on "Student Visa Integrity: Protecting Educational Opportunity and National Security." When first announced, the hearing was originally called "A Thousand Talents: China's Campaign to Infiltrate and Exploit U.S. Academia," which revealed the hearing's attempt to paint all Chinese students, scholars, and employees en masse as potential spies for China.

Washington, D.C. – Today, the House voted 351-66 to pass H.R. 5515, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The bill would provide for the authorization of funding for the Department of Defense and other related agencies, programs, and operations for Fiscal Year 2019. It authorizes approximately $639.1 billion for base budget requirements and an additional $69 billion designated for Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO). Rep. WASHINGTON, D.C. – During today's House Ways and Means Committee consideration of H.R. 5861, the Jobs and Opportunity with Benefits and Services for Success (JOBS) Act, which includes the reauthorization of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, Rep. WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Judy Chu and Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) introduced the Protecting Our Workers from Exploitation and Retaliation (POWER) Act in the House and Senate. The legislation will provide U Visa eligibility for immigrant workers who report unsafe or unfair labor practices. The bill will also strengthen labor agencies' investigative powers and allow a stay of removal and work authorization for workers who file a workplace claim.

Washington, DC — In an interview this morning, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly said that immigrants crossing the border would not assimilate into the United States, that they don't integrate well, and they don't have skills. Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) released the following statement in response:

"If John Kelly thinks immigrants don't integrate well and don't have any skills, then he needs to visit California, where we are a majority minority state and thriving with one of the strongest economies in the world.
