An adjoining proposal to create a national recreation area out of the rest of the Angeles National Forest, the San Gabriel River and the Rio Hondo, plus part of the Puente-Chino Hills, was launched by Rep. Judy Chu, D-Pasadena and is further along.The NPS scaled down Chu's preferred proposal from 581,000 acres to about 50,000 acres in April.

[T]he National Park Service (NPS) recognizes that people of color and low income people face disparities in access to parks -- these disparities harm their health, and park agencies have an obligation to alleviate these disparities. And NPS is taking action, such as their recommendation for a new national recreation area in the San Gabriel Mountains, citing the President's Order on Environmental Justice and health. Congresswoman Judy Chu cites health and environmental justice as two of the main reasons why the new recreation area is needed.

NARAL leaders said this month that they were going "on the offensive" by protesting restrictive abortion laws and supporting federal legislation called the Women's Health Protection Act. The bills — introduced by Democrats Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and Rep. Judy Chu of California — would overturn or block many abortion restrictions being enacted in states where Republicans are in power.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the five women who sit on the House Judiciary Committee, Representatives Judy Chu (D-CA), Suzan DelBene (D-WA), Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) and Karen Bass (D-CA) sent a letter to Judiciary Committee Chair Bob Goodlatte denouncing his decision to hold the first mark-up of 2014 on a divisive bill to restrict women’s access to reproductive health care. The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act (H.R. 7) would impose sweeping changes to current law to impede women’s access to abortion coverage nationwide.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27) voted against H.J. Res. 59, the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2013, for failing to extend unemployment insurance for long-term unemployed Americans. Earlier this week, Rep. WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today on the House floor, Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27) voted to pass H.R. 3309, the Innovation Act of 2013. This legislation helps curb abusive litigation by patent assertion entities, more commonly referred to as “patent trolls.” These actors abuse the patent system by purchasing the rights to overly broad patents in order to threaten legitimate businesses and consumers with costly litigation. According to a Boston University study, lawsuits brought on by patent trolls cost the U.S. economy more than $29 billion annually.
