I spoke on CNN's Starting Point to discuss the anti-Chinese ad run during the Super Bowl. Rep. Hoekstra should be ashamed of himself. If he wants to campaign on our struggling economy, he should be calling out George W. Bush for his two wars and tax cuts for the rich that were never paid for – and Wall Street for it's irresponsible actions. Instead, he is preying on prejudice and stereotypes in a pathetic effort to benefit politically.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit struck down California’s Proposition 8 and ruled it unconstitutional. The proposition, which bans same sex marriages within the state, was enacted into law in 2008. A three-person panel ruled 2-1 to affirm the trial court’s finding that Proposition 8 violates the civil rights of gays and lesbians. WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor reported that the unemployment rate dropped for the fifth straight month to 8.3 percent, the lowest it has been in three years. The U.S. economy grew by 243,000 jobs last month, including 50,000 jobs in manufacturing, 44,000 jobs in leisure and hospitality, and another 30,000 jobs in the healthcare industry. WASHINGTON, DC – Following recent high-profile military hazing cases, members of the House of Representatives, family members of victims, and a community advocate joined forces today to call for immediate action from the highest levels in the military to stop hazing. Members also called for Congressional hearings on the military’s effort to prevent hazing. Representatives Judy Chu (CA-32), Adam Smith (WA-09), Mike Honda (CA-15), and Barbara Lee (CA-09) were joined on Capitol Hill by Tom Hayashi, Interim Executive Director of the Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA). Carmen Lew, sister of Lance Corporal Harry Lew, who took his own life after enduring hazing and aggressive treatment from fellow marines while serving in Afghanistan, spoke at the conference by phone. El Monte, CA – Congresswoman Judy Chu’s efforts to help the residents of California’s 32nd District amounted to $598,254.95 in direct savings for her constituents last year. The savings accumulated over the course of 2011 as a direct result of Congresswoman Chu’s casework services for residents in the district.
