Washington, DC – Today, the House passed H.R. 5376, the Build Back Better Act, President Biden's $1.75 trillion legislation to invest in families, health care, climate change mitigation, affordable housing, small businesses, immigration, and other infrastructure. Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27), who helped to craft this bill as a member of the House Ways and Means, Budget, and Small Business Committees, issued the following statement:

Washington, DC — On Wednesday November 17^th, the House of Representatives voted to censure Rep. Paul Gosar (AZ-04) and remove him from his committee assignments after he posted an animated video depicting him killing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (NY-14) and injuring President Joe Biden. Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) voted for censure and issued the following statement:

Washington, DC — The Rose Bowl has been awarded $9.6 million by the U.S. Small Business Administration's (SBA) Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG), which Democrats in the House and Senate passed as part of the American Rescue Plan. This grant is awarded to venues like museums, theaters, concert halls, and arenas that had to cease operations during the pandemic.

Washington, DC – Tonight, the House passed H.R. 3684, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, a $1.2 trillion investment in infrastructure like roads, transit, and broadband that also encourages environmental protection, renewability, and electric vehicles. The House also passed the rule for H.R. 5376, the Build Back Better Act. Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27), who voted to pass both the bill and the rule, issued the following statement:

Washington, DC — Today, the House voted to pass H.R. 4256, the Investing in Main Street Act of 2021, introduced by Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27). This bill would amend the Small Businesses Investment Act of 1958 to increase the percentage of capital and surplus that a bank or federal savings association may invest in Small Business Investment Companies (SBICs) to match current banking regulations.

Washington, DC – In advance of the upcoming 2021 UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), Reps. Judy Chu (CA-27), Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-03), and Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) sent a letter signed by 31 other Members of Congress encouraging President Biden to engage in diplomatic efforts with China to address the growing climate crisis.

Washington, DC - Today, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced new guidelines regarding the Biden Administration's immigration enforcement priorities. The new priorities state that just being a "removable noncitizen" is no longer sufficient basis for deportation action. It also restores prosecutorial discretion for an individual's immigration case, and includes new mitigating factors such as one's age, length of stay, and impact of removal on one's family.

Pasadena, CA - Today, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) led a letter signed by eleven other Members of Congress to Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III asking for answers and information regarding the August 29^th drone strike in Kabul that killed at least ten civilians. On September 17^th, the Pentagon admitted that the drone strike was made in error, but this came weeks after assurances from the Pentagon that the strike was "righteous" and was known to have disrupted an ISIS attack.
