Washington, DC — The House of Representatives today voted to pass H.R. 5, the Equality Act, which updates the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other statutes to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity in employment, public education, access to credit, jury service, federal funding, housing, and public accommodations. Washington, DC — Today, the House of Representatives voted 234-183 to pass H.R. 987, the Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act, an omnibus package of bills designed to combat the Trump Administration's sabotage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and help lower the prices of prescription drugs.

Washington, DC — Today, President Trump announced a new immigration proposal that reduces family-based immigration, creates a burdensome merit-based system for new immigrants, and fails to address Dreamers, TPS, or detained immigrant children. Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) issued the following statement:

Washington, DC — Today, marks the 150th Anniversary of the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad, which linked the continental United States from coast to coast and ushered in a new era of American prosperity. The completion of the railroad would not have been possible without the labor of over 12,000 Chinese railroad workers who helped to build this engineering marvel even in the face of great adversity and racial discrimination.

Washington, DC — The House of Representatives today passed H.R. 2157, the Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2019, which provides $19.1 billion in emergency spending to provide disaster relief. The emergency relief in this bill would assist California in recovering from the recent wildfires, including emergency watershed protection, Bureau of Reclamation fire remediation and suppression assistance, National Park Service construction funding, Safe Drinking Water Act funding for facility repairs, and behavioral health treatment and crisis counseling for victims.

Pasadena, CA – On Sunday, May 5, Rep. Judy Chu announced the winners of her 10th annual Artistic Discovery Competition. Now in its 38th year, the nationwide competition is sponsored by Members of Congress to promote and recognize the artistic achievements of high school students. Winners were selected by a committee of judges that took into account style, technique, originality, and creativity. The winning work will be displayed in the U.S.

Washington, DC — The House of Representatives today voted to pass H.R. 986, the Protecting Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions Act. This bill would rescind the Trump Administration's October 2018 Section 1332 waiver guidance, which allows states to waive the requirement in the Affordable Care Act that healthcare plans cover preexisting conditions. The result would be the increased availability of what are known as "junk plans" that do not cover essential needs and leave patients at risk of financial ruin should they need medical care. Rep.

Washington, DC — On Thursday, the House of Representatives passed H.R 9, the Climate Action Now Act. This bill would prevent President Trump or future Presidents from withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement by prohibiting the use of federal funds to take action to remove the United States from the agreement. It would also require the President to submit an annual plan to Congress outlining the actions the country should take in order to meet our nationally determined contribution to global emissions reductions.

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, which commemorates the history, contributions, and achievements of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community began on Wednesday and will continue throughout the month of May. May is officially designated as "Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month" by section 102 of title 36, United States Code. The observance originally began as "Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week," which was established through a joint Congressional resolution in 1978.
