Washington, DC — Today, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) introduced the San Gabriel Mountains Foothills and Rivers Protection Act to expand the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, establish a National Recreation Area (NRA) along the foothills and San Gabriel River corridor, and designate over 30,000 acres of protected wilderness and 45.5 miles of protected rivers in Southern California. This bill would expand the borders of the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument to include the western Angeles National Forest.

Washington, DC — Today, the city of Adelanto in Southern California decided to end a contract with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to manage a 1,900 bed-center used to detain immigrants. The split follows a California law that prevented local governments from growing their detention centers, a restriction that will not be in place if ICE instead contracts with a private company directly, as they have elsewhere. Losing the contract with Adelanto can also mean less oversight at the facility now. Rep.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Reps. Judy Chu (CA-27) and Devin Nunes (CA-22) introduced the Sunshine for Samples Act of 2019. This bill would amend the Sunshine Act to require companies that manufacture drugs, devices, biologics, or medical supplies to publicly make available the number and value of free drug samples given to health care providers and charities each year.

Washington, DC — Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) has reintroduced a resolution to celebrate the history and contributions of American Muslims and acknowledge their contributions to our nation. The resolution highlights the over 5,000 American Muslims currently serving in the Armed Forces, as well as distinguished American Muslims who are U.S. military veterans, including Army Captain Humayun Khan, who was killed in a suicide attack in Iraq in 2004 and posthumously awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Treasury Department today announced that it would waive the under-withholding penalty for taxpayers who paid at least 80% of their taxes, down from the current 85%.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – During his testimony to the House Ways and Means Committee this morning, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin gave a commitment to Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) that within the week he will provide a response to her request for further relief for taxpayers facing penalties for under-withholding on their taxes. Rep. Chu is the sponsor of HR 1300, the Taxpayer Penalty Protection Act, to shield taxpayers who under-withheld due to the rushed changes made in the Republican tax law.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) joined Rep. David Cicilline (RI-01) and 237 other cosponsors to introduce the Equality Act. The Equality Act amends existing federal laws like the Civil Rights Act of 1965, the Fair Housing Act, the Equal Credit and Opportunity Act, and the Jury Selection Act to create a single national prohibition on discrimination based on gender or sexual orientation in employment, housing, public accommodation, education, and more.
