Washington, D.C. – Today, President Donald Trump signed an executive order ordering a review of all national monuments established under the Antiquities Act over the past 21 years. This includes the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument which President Obama established in October 2014. Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27), whose district includes much of the San Gabriel Mountains and who pressed Obama to declare them a national monument, released the following statement:
Washington, D.C. – Today, the House Judiciary Committee voted to approve H.R. 1695, the Register of Copyrights and Accountability Act, a bill that would require the Register of Copyrights to be a position that is nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate. The bill would also set a term limit of ten years for this position, which could be renewed. Currently, the Register, who oversees the Copyright Office, is appointed by the Librarian of Congress. Washington, D.C. – Today, President Donald Trump signed a new executive order to update and reinstate his travel ban on Muslim-majority countries after his first order was stopped by a federal court. His previous travel ban, issued on January 27, 2017, halted all refugee resettlement for 120 days, banned Syrian refugees indefinitely, and gave priority to Christians as a minority religion.
