WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) introduced the Investing in Main Street Act along with Rep. Grace Meng (NY-06) and Rep. Steve Knight (CA-25). This bill would amend the Small Businesses Investment Act of 1958 to increase the percentage of capital and surplus that a bank or federal savings association may invest in Small Business Investment Companies (SBICs) to match current banking regulations. The SBIC program is an investment program with a Small Business Administration (SBA) guarantee that increases access to capital for high-growth, start-up businesses.
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) reintroduced the San Gabriel Mountains Foothills and Rivers Protection Act. This bill, cosponsored by Reps. Grace Napolitano (CA-32), Adam Schiff (CA-28), Linda Sanchez (CA-38), and Tony Cardenas (CA-29), and supported by local water, conservation and recreation groups, would expand the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument boundaries and create a new National Recreation Area (NRA).

Today, the House voted to pass H.R. 1695, the Register of Copyrights Selection and Accountability Act of 2017. The bill would change the selection process for the head of the Copyright Office to be a Presidential nominee confirmed by the Senate. Currently, the Register of Copyrights is appointed by the Librarian of Congress, since the Copyright Office is housed within the Library of Congress. Rep.

Washington, D.C. – Today, the House Judiciary Committee voted to approve H.R. 1695, the Register of Copyrights and Accountability Act, a bill that would require the Register of Copyrights to be a position that is nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate. The bill would also set a term limit of ten years for this position, which could be renewed. Currently, the Register, who oversees the Copyright Office, is appointed by the Librarian of Congress.
