Washington, DC — The House of Representatives today voted to pass H.R. 2546, the Protecting America's Wilderness Act, a package of environmental protection bills that includes H.R. 2215, the San Gabriel Mountains Foothills and Rivers Protection Act. Introduced by Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27), H.R. 2215 would expand the borders of the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument to include the western Angeles National Forest.

Washington, DC— For the first time in over 20 years, the House Energy and Commerce Committee today held a hearing on proactive legislation to defend access to abortion. The hearing was centered on H.R. 2975, the Women's Health Protection Act, legislation introduced by U.S. Representative Judy Chu (CA-27) and U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), along with Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Representatives Marcia Fudge (OH-11), Lois Frankel (FL-21), to guarantee equal access to abortion, everywhere.

Washington, DC — On Monday, the California Horse Racing Board released their annual report on horse racing in California for the 2019 calendar year. The report showed that nearly 90% of fatalities in 2019 were associated with pre-existing, undetected stress fractures. It also found that the dirt track at Santa Anita was responsible for four times as many fatalities as the turf track, despite holding only 30% more races.

Washington, DC — Today, the Trump Administration announced an expansion of the existing Muslim Ban to include six new countries: Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Eritrea, Nigeria, Sudan, and Tanzania. Of these countries, Sudan and Kyrgyzstan are majority-Muslim, Eritrea and Tanzania are about half Muslim, Nigeria has the world's 5th largest Muslim population and Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar are currently experiencing a genocide, which this ban will make it harder to escape.

Judy Chu (CA-27) announced that she will be bringing Islmail Alghazali as her guest to the State of the Union. Ismail is a US citizen living in New York City who was separated from his family by the Muslim Ban, unable to even meet his newborn daughter for months. Rep. Chu issued the following statement:

Washington, DC — Today, on the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and Holocaust Memorial Day, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 943, the Never Again Education Act. The Never Again Education Act directs the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum to develop and nationally disseminate Holocaust education resources to high school and middle school educators.
